

The SHTM's achievements as the pioneering tertiary institution in its field in Hong Kong are well recognised. Already rated No. 2 globally in terms of research output by the respected Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, the SHTM seeks to scale new height and attain higher level of excellence in the years ahead. The University believes that Hotel ICON will enhance the School's already strong position and help it to achieve this goal by giving it greater visibility as a world-class institution.

Training Restaurant and Food Labs
The new premises will include a 66-seat training restaurant, a 50-seat vinotec lab, a Western cuisine production lab that holds 32 students and an Eastern cuisine production lab that accommodates 24 student, as well as bakery and pastry labs.
Hotel and Tourism Resources Centre
An integral part of Hotel ICON, the Che-woo Lui Hotel and Tourism Research Centre will house reading and learning areas that can accommodate up to 180 students, a China tourism research centre, a hospitality research and development centre, a digital lab for hospitality technology and a student activity centre.

Prototype Guestrooms
The experimental guestrooms will be a joint effort between different departments within the PolyU and selected industrial partners. This is a platform to develop, test and showcase new technologies, designs and business concepts in order to build eco-friendly guestrooms of tomorrow.

Lecture and Function Rooms

Lecture hall
- Available for rental by PolyU departments and the wider community, the 280-seat lecture hall with a pre-function area located in Basement 1 is designated for teaching and conference uses.

Lecture areas
- The lecture area will be comprised of five classrooms of a seating capacity from 20 to 60 people each.
